Last Blog

This last semester, I have learned many aspects with social media and PR. I would definitely say the highs for this semester would be the speakers coming to class, explaining what to expect in the real world, and how to handle pressure-filled situations when it comes to social media. Having a client for the semester was very interesting, because you have the responsibility to take note on your client and observe their communication types on social media sites. Some of the lows would be all the writing reports we had to do this semester. I understood it was important in the long run to look back on our client and to inspect the changes that have occurred these past couple of months. That would be the only thing I would change in this class, is to maybe cut down the weekly reports for one every two weeks. Writing them each week starts to become a bit difficult because there wouldn’t be any updates to the social sites to report.

Leaving this semester, I will take all the knowledge that I have learned in this class. Reading Shankman and Groundswell explained the whole idea of social media and the technologies that follow. I will also take the rules of social media with me for the future, because if am hired as a social media specialist I need to know the basics/rules of social media, and this class helped me out in those areas.

Thankful

Thanksgiving is that time of the year where you give thanks to the people and things that have impacted your life. The number one thing I am most grateful for is my family. My family means more than anything to me and I appreciate everything that they do. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Next, I am thankful for my friends, who are always there for me no matter what. True friendship is a rare thing to find and I’m glad to have the friends I have today. I am thankful for my dog, Cassidy, who has been by my side for the past 12 years and have loved every minute of it.

I am thankful for the roof over my head, the food placed every night for dinner, and the clothes to keep me warm. I see those around the world who are thankful just to get a cup of fresh water and makes me realize that I should never complain with what I have. I am thankful for my education, and the fact that I get to graduate next month! Woo! Super thankful for all the places I have been around the world. Traveling is a passion of mine and I am forever grateful to see some of the most beautiful cities in the world. Finally, I am thankful for my health for enabling me for what I want to do and accomplish in the future.

Shopping With My Phone

When it comes to shopping, I always bring my phone with me. After reading the article, I found it interesting on what categories people use their phones when they shop. For example, when I go to the grocery store I bring my phone because I look at my grocery list under my notes. Other times when I’m shopping for clothes and etc., I usually will contact my friends or look at social media networks. For apps, I do have a couple of apps that I use when it comes to shopping such as Urban Outfitters, to look at their new products, see their sale items, and look for discounts. It’s one of my favorite stores and I tend to check up on the app on a weekly basis.

My client Petco does not have an app, but would greatly benefit if they did have one. Petco could provide an app of their products and services that are coming soon, and could update customers on their prices, deals, and sales items. Also providing comments and feedback for their products could benefit other customers on which products to purchase. Also if Petco had an app, it could let customers know on pet news, tips, and other information about their pets.

Moms & Social Media

After reading the article, it is no surprise to me that mothers with younger children engage more in social media. Mothers with younger children are using social media more to find better deals for themselves and their children. I do believe certain companies, whose target audiences are mothers with young children, have an advantage to promote social media by sharing information. Companies want their customers to engage on their social media networks in order to spread the word about their company, and to gain brand loyalty.

My client, who is Petco, has an advantage with its demographic because their target is basically everyone to those who own a pet. Regarding to the article Petco does in some way target to moms. When I think of a family with a pet, the first that comes to my mind is the mother taking care of the pet (majority of the time). Petco interacts with customers through their social media by providing those to leave comments or share their thoughts about their certain products and services. I do agree with the articles stating how mothers stay connected through social media. It explains how mothers like to follow their favorite brands in order to receive discounts and deals through their sites. Online shopping also can take part in this by mothers liking/recommending certain products for other customers to see.

Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year! The full moon, scary movies, and the CANDY makes it even better! If I could pick my favorite Halloween costume as a kid, it would be when I was Marilyn Monroe. I was about 8 years old, and my mom dressed me up as the famous Marilyn Monroe in that white dress that she is well known for. We did the wig, dress, shoes, red lipstick and even the beauty mark to complete the costume. I wish I could upload a picture, but unfortunately I don’t have a copy on my computer!

When it comes to the templates that universities are supplying to fans to carve their pumpkins, is a great idea! There is no way that I could carve something like the Georgia Southern logo on a pumpkin, and providing a template is wonderful way to show your support for your university. It is clever idea to get your community to follow the trend and spread the logo as well. I do believe that this would be an effective idea for other businesses, such as fast food, drink companies, and etc. to provide templates, because it will spread brand awareness. Not only will it do this, but also show their Halloween spirit to their fans!
